The Case High School wrestling team continued to endure growing pains Thursday night, losing to Kenosha Tremper 59-18 in a Southeast Conference match at Case.
The Eagles (3-7, 1-4 SEC) kept it close in some matches, but mistakes late cost them, according to coach David Edwards.
“We’re very young and we made some crucial mistakes towards the end that hurt us,” Edwards said.
Among those leading Case was Jordan Sykes (220 pounds), who won his first varsity match by pinning Tayzian Taylor in 1:21.
“Jordan stepped up and wrestled very well to get his first win and we will look to build off that,” Edwards said.
Brandon Cruz, who wrestled at 182 pounds, also won by pin over Matt Hansen in 1:33.
KENOSHA BRADFORD 63, PARK 6: Joseph Mendoza earned an upset victory at 113 pounds to start for Park, but the Panthers fell to the Red Devils in this Southeast Conference meet at Kenosha Bradford.
Mendoza, who improved to 23-6, scored a 6-4 decision over Collin Widmar, ranked third in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online rankings.
“Joseph wrestled very well, and scored the deciding takedown with three seconds left to get the win,” said Park coach Jon Burdick, whose team is 2-3 in the SEC.
Jerrel Campbell, who wrestled at 182, was Park’s other winner. He scored a 7-3 decision over Dylan Garofalo.
